Nowhere

Logo Design, Branding, Illustration, Social Media

Tasked with making a brand for my favorite place, I created a location based app and visual identity for driving across Iowa in the middle of the night.

The brand identity and app concept revolve around the limited color palette of a dark environment, the fonts used by the Department of Transportation, and direct flash photography. The colors are taken from the glow emitted by towns in the distance with that light diffusing into the black sky. The bright yellow acts as a contrast to the dark blue and is reminiscent of the headlights of oncoming traffic. Highway Gothic is the font used for most interstate signs, so Highway Gothic Extended (all caps) was close enough to be guilty by association, but far enough removed to be unique. I wanted to use direct flash photography in a dark setting to capture the thought, "What if my car could take photos?" I think they would mostly be landscape shots using a direct flash. That flash of course being the headlights. The handwriting and little illustrations bring a touch of humanity.
